Just like fashion trends, new diet crazes come and go, and the latest diet trend is a relatively new entry which claims that you can lose up to ten pounds in three days. This so-called ’emergency’ diet is called the Military Diet and is in fact a form of intermittent fasting which sends the metabolism into shock to promote weight loss.

Don’t be fooled by the name – if you take part in the Military Diet you won’t be eating army rations. Instead you get to enjoy unexpected foods such as hot dogs for dinner and vanilla ice cream for dessert! Essentially it is a strict low-carb, high-protein three day diet with carefully picked foods, including caffeine to kick-start the metabolism, grapefruit to alter your body’s PH levels, and calcium to promote fat burning (this is where the ice cream comes in).

The diet claims that if you follow the strict plan you can lose up to 10lbs in 3 days. However, for the average-sized person, this figure is likely to fall to around 3-4lbs – still a remarkable weight loss for just three days! The real trouble, however, comes in trying to keep the weight off in the four days that follow, as it’s easy to pile the pounds back on just as quickly. It is recommended to stick to a diet low in carbs and high in protein, and of around 1500 calories a day in order to maintain the weight loss in the following four days before starting the diet again.

Results vary between gender, size, and how active a person is. People that generally ate healthily and exercised often before the diet lost less weight and claimed to feel hungry and weak by the second day. However, those with quite a bit of weigh to lose lost a remarkable amount of weight in just three short days!
