#GBBO Faves Get Festive

With Series 8 gobbled up by viewers at the end of October, The Great British Bake Off saw a successful return this Summer after new judges, new presenters, and a whole new home on Channel 4 initially made loyal fans queasy. Our ovens may be empty for the time being, but GBBO lovers will be getting their next taste of the show far sooner, and in a more generous helping than they originally thought.
You can expect not one, but two(!) holiday-themed specials to feast on this December – enough telly to keep your Nana’s questionable figgy pudding at bay.
‘The Great Christmas Bake Off’ will see Series 7 heartthrob Selasi Gbormittah get his oven mitts out to face Series 4 Welsh semi-finalist Beca Lyne-Pirkis, Yorkshire pudding extraordinaire Val Stones, and Paul Jagger, creator of the iconic Bread Lion, in a host of yummy yuletide challenges.
Meanwhile, ‘The Great Festive Bake Off’ will feature Series 7 fan favourites Benjamina Ebuehi and Rav Bansal go up against Series 2’s Rob Billington (with Mary Berry famously loving his cake even after he dropped it) and Series 6’s Sandy Docherty in a similar set of Christmas cooking capers to impress the judges.
For the eight returning contestants, this will be their first time with new judge Prue Leith and presenters Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig, having all appeared on the show on its initial run on the BBC.
The delectable news was spread across the show’s social media on Tuesday, and we really are curious to see what Noel Fielding will be getting in his stocking –

Channel 4’s takeover of our beloved baked battle earlier this year went far better than fans expected, with the first episode reaching a whopping 6.5 million viewers, the highest viewing figure the network has received since it aired the opening ceremony for the Paralympic Games in 2012.
An air date has yet to be set for the two Christmas specials, but needless to say, we’ll be eagerly waiting by our TVs and ovens when Santa Paul delivers the goods.
