Food Review: Las Iguanas, Newcastle

If you love a good theme, Las Iguanas is a restaurant you might like to try. The Latin American-style chain has restaurants all over the country, but I recently popped into the one on Grey Street just down from the Theatre Royal.

As always, the restaurant itself is pristine and the atmosphere is super friendly and super chilled. The staff were perfect and could not be faulted one bit. From start to finish, it was a genuinely enjoyable experience. So long as you book a table, you will be absolutely fine.

We all know that when it comes down to it, food is what really matters… all the time. And at Las Iguanas, I have never gotten something I didn’t like. From the mushroom fajitas to the chicken fajitas to the beef burrito, loaded nachos and the calamari – everything is delicious and packed with flavour. The burritos I had were gorgeous too, with a perfect balance of cheese.

For those who have a bit more of a simple palette, there are beef and chicken burgers available and, to be honest, if I wasn’t going for the Latin American food, I would get one. They are huge and juicy and look like they’re worth every penny.

Oh – one more thing. Las Iguanas also has its renowned 2-4-1 happy hour for cocktails. On average, it’ll be about £10 for two – and they’re delicious. A favourite of mine from my last sampling was the Pina Colada. It was just the right blend of pineapple and milk. One thing about Las Iguanas cocktails is that they are always on top form.

A lovely restautant right at the heart of the Toon.
